Tips and Notes
Revision 1.1 This software is now in version 1.1 and has features not included in previous releases.
  • CarbCheck 1.1 has been tested on Palm III series, Handspring Visor and Tungsten E series devices using the Palm operating system, version 3.3 or higher
  • Digital ink field has been removed
  • Added choice of three databases (different sizes for different memory available)
  • Implemented filtering by food category groups
  • Implemented editing and creating category groups
  • Improved look and feel, updated some buttons and actions
  • Added simplified help screen

Carb Tally The paper clip/check box - this is meant to be checked-off so that you can later tally the numbers for all the foods that you've checked off or selected. You can now sort all entries that have this box checked. The development platform I'm using does not at present allow summing table data however, so you will have to mentally add total carbos to get a total meal count. That means for most of us adding maybe four or five 2-digit numbers in our head. Ouch! :-) I will automate this when the development platform add the appropriate features.
Fatal Error Whenever I tried to search the database I used to get a this error:
Fatal:SystemMgr.c, Line:103, Unimplemented

I hope you don't have this problem, but if you do, the fix for this is simple. Go to the
Palm software download site and upgrade your Palm operating system to version 3.3 or higher. It seems that version 3.0 and version 3.1 somehow choke on my code. The download is free and offers additional features for your Palm so you should consider upgrading anyway.

Handspring
Owners
I have received a small number of reports by owners of Handspring Visors that CarbCheck caused a lockup of their handheld. I apologize if you have this happen to you. I don't have a Handspring to debug whatever it is that might cause the problem. Perhaps, I will be able to fix this in a future version. Again, I'm sorry. Naturally, if the program does not operate satisfactorily on your device, your money will be refunded.
Sorting You can now sort by food group or category. Use the pull down menu.
Group and Serving Size When in the edit mode, you can add your own foods of course. Right now, you have to choose Serving Size and Group from a drop-down list that's tied to a static database. That means you cannot enter your own portion sizes or create your own group name. But, this list is pretty big. A future version of CarbCheck will allow you to edit this list.
Databases The current database is based on the ADA exchange list handbook and the Fast Food Facts pamphlet from the the Minnesota Attorney General's Office. In total that gives you about 1091 food item entries in the Palm version.
The USDA database is in planning. USDA's abridged database has about 6000 records in it.
